Assess whether the Onchtech 4-ton spider crane suits a rooftop HVAC equipment replacement. Review access, lifting height and radius, outrigger setup, and load verification before planning a lift.

Replacing rooftop HVAC equipment can involve narrow access routes, limited setup space and a lift path around building features. The Onchtech 4-ton tracked spider crane is a compact option to assess for this work. Its suitability cannot be determined from the 4-ton designation alone: the planned load, working radius, lifting height and supporting surface must all be checked for the specific site.

Where the compact design may help

At 1 m wide, the crane may be able to travel through routes that cannot accommodate a larger machine, provided the full route has adequate width, height, turning space and load-bearing capacity. Its rubber-tracked undercarriage and hydraulically driven travel support positioning in restricted work areas; surface protection and safe travel still depend on site conditions.

The crane has a stated maximum lifting height above ground of 15 m and a maximum working radius of 13 m. These are separate maximum figures, not a promise that both can be achieved during the same lift. For an HVAC replacement, the required hook position must be established from the actual pickup point to the rooftop placement point.

Key specifications for an initial assessment

Item Stated specification Planning relevance
Overall dimensions 4.25 m L × 1 m W × 1.83 m H Check the entire access route and setup area.
Machine self-weight 3 t Assess transport and supporting surfaces; self-weight is not an outrigger reaction value.
Maximum lifting height above ground 15 m Verify the required hook height and clearance.
Maximum working radius 13 m Confirm capacity at the actual working radius.
Boom and outriggers Seven-section telescopic boom; three-section extendable outriggers with manual extension and hydraulic support Check the boom configuration, outrigger footprint and ground conditions.
Power and controls Diesel engine and AC 380 V electric motor; remote control optional Confirm the intended power supply and control configuration.

What to verify before planning the lift

  1. Load and lifting configuration. Record the HVAC unit’s verified weight and dimensions, plus the weight of rigging and any lifting accessories. Obtain the applicable load chart and confirm rated capacity at the required radius, boom configuration and outrigger setup. A 4-ton designation does not establish capacity at every radius.
  2. Access and lift path. Measure gates, passages, slopes and turning areas. Map obstructions between pickup and placement points, including parapets, rooftop plant and overhead services; establish the hook height and clearance needed to place the load.
  3. Outrigger placement and surface capacity. Confirm that the full outrigger footprint fits on a suitable, level setup area. Have a qualified party verify the capacity of the supporting ground or structure for the planned crane and outrigger loads. If the crane will be positioned on a roof or suspended slab, the machine’s 3 t self-weight alone is insufficient for that assessment.
  4. Site controls. Review the lifting method, exclusion zone, weather conditions and communication between the operator and lifting team under applicable site procedures.

Discuss your rooftop replacement requirements

Onchtech, the equipment brand of Hunan Hongchang Machinery Co., Ltd., can discuss the crane configuration against your project requirements. Share the HVAC unit weight and dimensions, pickup and placement locations, required reach and height, access-route measurements, and proposed setup surface. These details provide a basis for checking the appropriate load chart and available options before deciding whether this spider crane is suitable.
