Planning Indoor Work Around Obstacles with the SAL-12EJ
Indoor elevated access is not just a height requirement. The machine must reach around fixed obstacles, travel through the building and operate on a floor capable of supporting its loads. The Onchtech SAL-12EJ electric articulating boom lift is designed for indoor maintenance, installation and inspection where compact access, low noise and zero exhaust emissions during operation are important.
Its articulated boom provides an option for reaching over obstructions in museums, shopping malls and studios. Selection should begin with the actual work position and site conditions—not the maximum working height alone.
Start with the required working envelope
The SAL-12EJ has a 13.6 m maximum working height, 5.5 m maximum horizontal outreach and 5.4 m up-and-over height. These figures describe different limits of the machine’s working envelope; they should not be assumed to be available simultaneously.
For an indoor obstacle-clearance assessment, record the obstacle’s height and depth, the available machine position and the required platform location. Request the working-envelope diagram to check whether that combination is achievable.
Specifications that guide indoor access planning
| Planning parameter | SAL-12EJ specification |
|---|---|
| Maximum working / platform height | 13.6 m / 11.6 m |
| Maximum horizontal outreach / up-and-over height | 5.5 m / 5.4 m |
| Stowed dimensions: length × width × height | 5.5 × 1.5 × 2.0 m |
| Inner / outer turning radius | 1.2 m / 3.45 m |
| Ground clearance | 0.12 m |
| Standard machine weight | 4,200 kg |
| Platform capacity / maximum occupants | 215 kg / 2 people |
| Platform dimensions | 1.16 × 0.73 m |
| Turntable rotation | 355° |
| Travel speed: stowed / elevated | 4 km/h / 0.65 km/h |
| Gradeability, stowed / maximum allowable working inclination | 30% / 3° |
| Power source / drive and steering | Electric, 8 × 6 V / two-wheel drive, two-wheel steering |
Use these specifications for initial screening. Confirm the selected configuration, operating limits and site suitability against the applicable machine documentation before use.
Four checks before selecting the machine
1. Map the obstacle and platform position
Measure the obstruction, its distance from the proposed chassis position and the clearance around the intended work area. Include overhead services, beams and nearby equipment. Check the full boom movement path as well as the final platform position; the 355° turntable rotation does not mean unrestricted clearance around the machine.
2. Survey the complete access route
Compare the 1.5 m machine width and 2.0 m stowed height with the narrowest and lowest points along the route. Allow operating clearance rather than treating an equal-sized opening as sufficient. Check corners against the turning radii, and inspect thresholds, ramps and floor transitions in relation to the 0.12 m ground clearance.
3. Verify floor loading independently
The SAL-12EJ’s compact dimensions do not establish whether a floor can support its 4,200 kg standard weight. Obtain the relevant wheel-load and contact-pressure information for assessment by the facility’s responsible structural professional. Review the travel route and operating positions, including suspended slabs, covers and finished surfaces. Dividing total weight by the machine’s footprint is not a reliable floor-loading check.
4. Check the full platform load and operating conditions
Account for occupants, tools and materials within the 215 kg platform capacity; the two-person limit is not an additional load allowance. Confirm that the platform dimensions suit the task. The 30% stowed gradeability is a travel specification, not permission to work elevated on that slope. Follow the machine’s instructions for inclination, travel and positioning.
Where this planning approach is useful
- Museums: assess access around exhibits and fixed installations, with particular attention to floor capacity and surface protection.
- Shopping malls: check routes through entrances and internal circulation areas before planning overhead maintenance around fixtures.
- Studios: map lighting structures, overhead services and equipment to establish a clear boom path and suitable working position.
Electric operation avoids engine exhaust at the work location and supports noise-sensitive indoor applications. It does not remove the need for site risk assessment, controlled access or trained operators.
Common selection questions
Can it reach 5.5 m horizontally at a 13.6 m working height?
Do not assume so. These are separate maximum specifications. Check the required height and outreach together against the working-envelope diagram.
Does a 1.5 m-wide doorway guarantee access?
No. Door hardware, clear opening dimensions, approach angle, turning space and overhead clearance all affect passage. The route needs clearance beyond the nominal machine dimensions.
Is it automatically suitable for weight-sensitive indoor floors?
No. Suitability depends on the structure and local loads, not simply the equipment category or compact size. Obtain load information and have the intended route and work positions assessed.
Discuss your indoor access requirements
Onchtech is the complete-machine brand of Hunan Hongchang Machinery Co., Ltd. For a SAL-12EJ selection discussion, share the required work height, obstacle dimensions, horizontal offset, access-route measurements, floor information and expected platform load.
Request the working-envelope diagram, relevant floor-loading data and a configuration quotation to support your technical review before procurement.
